Eight-year-old Olivia Grace Edwards was rushed to hospital after being taken unwell in a car park in Aberdeen, but was tragically pronounced dead a short time later

A “beautiful” young girl tragically passed away after suddenly falling ill in a car park, just a day before her ninth birthday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Kingwells park and ride on Skene Road in Aberdeen, following reports that eight year old Olivia Grace Edwards had taken ill around 8.40pm on Saturday, October 25.

Despite being swiftly transported to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital for urgent medical attention, the youngster was sadly pronounced dead shortly afterwards. In response to the tragic event, a GoFundMe page has been set up by family friend Kathryn Campbell, aiming to assist Olivia’s grieving parents, Mark and Georgina, with the unexpected funeral costs.

The heartfelt message attached to the fundraiser read: “My amazing best friends have lost their beautiful baby girl unexpectedly just one day before her 9th birthday. Her parents, sisters, family and friends are all heartbroken. Olivia was a beautiful, funny, sweet and amazing little girl and is going to be missed so much by all who knew her.

“Please can you help take some of the stress away by donating to help give this beautiful girl the best send off.”

The exact cause of Olivia’s untimely death remains unconfirmed at this time. Olivia leaves behind her devastated parents Mark and Georgina, as well as her sisters Nieve and Hollie reports the Daily Record.

Tributes have since flooded in online, with Claire Lumsden expressing: “Deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of beautiful Olivia. My sincere condolences to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Amy Simpson expressed her sorrow, writing: “Nieve and her dad’s family are truly heartbroken. Life is just so cruel. I can’t even imagine how Nieves’ dad, step mum, Holly, and Nieve are feeling at the moment. Beautiful little girl.”

Maureen Cowie added to the outpouring of grief, stating: “Hearing this sad news is just heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you all.” Becca Munro echoed these sentiments, saying: “Beyond heartbreaking for everyone! Sending love to her family and friends.”

Following the tragic incident, police swiftly launched an investigation and cordoned off the area at Kingswells Park and Ride due to the “unexplained” death. Officers have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland provided an update, saying: “We were made aware of concern for a child who had taken unwell on Skene Road in Aberdeen around 8.40pm on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

“She was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. Her death is being treated as unexplained but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.”
