Donations have poured in for the family of a 16-year-old girl who was struck by a careless driver whilst walking her dog.
Mia Lily Keogh O’Keeffe was killed alongside her beloved dog, Bowie, during a hit and run in Navan, Co Meath, on Saturday night. The teen was at the pedestrian crossing when she was struck by the vehicle at around 8.20pm. He failed to stop at the scene.
Emergency services treated her at the scene before she was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where she was later pronounced dead. It has been confirmed that Gardaí arrested a man, aged in his 20s. However, he was later released without charge.
The 16-year-old was one of seven people to lose their life on Irish roads over the weekend. Now, a fundraiser has been launched to help support Mia’s heartbroken family during this difficult time, with almost €30,000 being raised by the community so far.

She suffered catastrophic injuries and later passed away in hospital. Tragically, Bowie also lost his life. Mia Lily was just moments from her home when the collision occurred, and the driver did not stop.
“She was only 16 years old and had her whole life ahead of her. She leaves behind her heartbroken Mam Louise, Dad Stephen, her sister Katelyn, and her brothers Kai, Zack and Cole, along with so many friends and loved ones who are devastated by her loss.”
The organiser thanked people for their “kindness and support” in donating, as they asked the public to help in easing the financial burden placed on the Mia Lilly’s family, reports Irish Mirror.
“At this unimaginably painful time,” they added. “We are asking for any support you can give, no matter how big or small, to help ease the financial burden on her family as they lay their beautiful girl to rest. Every donation and every share means more than words can say. If you’re unable to donate, feel free to share. Mia Lily, we are beyond heartbroken by your loss. Thank you for your kindness and support.”
