Molly-Mae’s collaboration with Adidas almost broke the internet, but people have found a way to get the look of her matcha Samba’s using genuine Adidas shoes for a fraction of the price
Molly-Mae Hague’s collaboration with Adidas almost broke the internet, with people rushing to their nearest stores and shopping online to get her drink-inspired trainers. After working with Adidas behind the scenes for some time, Molly-Mae released two trainers with the brand that were inspired by an iced latte and matcha.
Although many people thought the influencer and business owner would bring out two Sambas, she surprised her fans by also releasing a Superstar II shoe. The Samba is a matcha-green colourway with off-white three stripes, a traditional gum sole and a double-laced system in white and baby pink.
The latte-themed Superstar has a soft cream-white and brown colourway and a double-laced construction in flat white tones. The footwear sold out very quickly, as expected, with many people reselling the shoes for much more than they bought them.
There are a few sizes still left of the Matcha Green Samba on the Adidas website, while the Superstars only have larger sizes still available.
But one fashion influencer has found the perfect solution for those who would like to get the Molly-Mae x Adidas look while saving money on the £100 price point.
Lauren, who posts on TikTok under the username @Its_laurensarah, shared how she bought another Adidas shoe and switched out the laces for £36 less than the Molly-Mae collab.
She bought a pair of the Adidas Breaknet Sleek Shoes, which cost £55 at Decathlon or £49.50 from M&S . She then bought a pair of 80cm baby pink laces from Amazon, which can be bought here for £4.97, bringing the total cost of the shoe to as little as £54.45.
After putting the pink laces half way up the shoe she then re-added the while laces to complete the look.
Lauren said: “The Molly Mae Matcha Sambas sold out almost instantly, and if you didn’t get your hands on them, then let me show you how to DIY them with actual Adidas shoes.
“Because the resale prices are ridiculous, whereas these will cost you £62 all in. Start with the Adidas Breaknet Sleek Shoe in the colour green. These are £55 and basically always in stock. And then pick up some baby pink laces from Amazon. These are 80 centimetres long and they’re £6.99.
“You just take the laces out, take your pink lace, thread it, tie the lace in a bow, just like normal. Now you have genuine Adidas, which is still the very cute pink and green, and you don’t need to give the resellers ridiculous amounts of money.
“I think they’re so fun and cute, and they will definitely be getting their wares worth this summer.”
Fans commented on Lauren’s video to describe how “comfortable” they thought the Breaknet Sleek shoes from Adidas are.
One person said: “Gatekeep those breaknet’s, they are so comfy & if Adidas find out we love them they will hike the price up like the sambas.”
A second said: “Schuh sells the breaknet’s btw they’re so much comfier than samba’s.”
