A mum-of-five always uses the same ‘genius’ hack for getting the most out of any beauty, skincare and household products and it couldn’t be simpler to replicate
A savvy mum has revealed a “genius” trick to make pricey household essentials like face creams, moisturisers and other lotion and gel-based products last much longer. With the cost of living crisis biting, people are eager to stretch their money as far as possible.
Beauty and skincare items can often come with eye-watering price tags, depending on where they’re bought from, so it’s no wonder people want to squeeze out every last bit of each item. Similarly, everyday essentials like toothpaste can run out quickly, but one mum’s clever tip has got people excited.
Jen Watson, a professional home organiser and mother of five, regularly shares her experience and insight regarding a variety of lifestyle hacks on social media, offering tips in a bid to lend a hand to others.
The organising guru dishes out advice on a broad range of subjects, from the “best way to roll a towel” and “tricks to make your bathroom smell amazing”, to the crucial task of cleaning out dryer filters and air vents to avoid a potential house fire.
In a popular video posted on Instagram, she shared a hack she swears by. In the footage, shot from Jen’s point of view, she attempts to squeeze some moisturiser out of a tube but gets nowhere.
So she then cuts off the top of the tube, unscrews the cap and pops it inside the now-open container to push the remaining product out.
She keeps handy mini jars at the ready to store the leftover product.
In the caption accompanying the video, Jen shared: “Here’s a little trick I use when the container won’t squeeze out any more product, but still has some left inside. I cut off the top portion and use the lid part to push out what’s left inside.
“Try this hack the next time you can’t squeeze out any more lotion or shampoo/conditioner (in similar bottles.) You’ll be shocked at how much is still left inside!”
The video was a hit among Jen’s 837K followers, who were eager to share their thoughts.
One follower commented: “Works great! Thanks” while another said: “I’ve been doing this for years, gets the most out of the tube”.
A third suggested: “Also see: toothpaste!!”
Another follower expressed regret for not having thought of this earlier, saying: “This is GENIUS. I can’t believe I’ve never thought to do this before!
“I’m thinking back over all the wasted product (and money!!) over the years now grrr. I will definitely be trying this with all my lotions and potions now!”
Others simply posted emojis to express their gratitude and appreciation for the tip.
