High street banks say the closures are down to more people using online services – but charities say it puts vulnerable people at risk
High street banks including Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland are set to close 19 branches in February 2026.
Lloyds has confirmed 11 of its high street banks will shut, while Halifax will close five sites and Bank of Scotland will axe three locations. High street banks say the closures are down to more people using online services.
However, charities have warned that vulnerable people risk being left without access to banking services. Which? data shows banks and building societies have closed 6,660 branches since January 2015.
There are 71 branches scheduled for closure in 2026. Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland are part of the Lloyds Banking Group, so customers can use branches across any of these three banks for everyday banking.
You can also check if there is a “banking hub” near you, which is where a bank sets up in shared public space on the high street.
You can do also some basic bank tasks at the Post Office, such as paying in cash and cheques, making withdrawals and checking your balance.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group previously said more than 21 million of its customers now use banking apps.
They added: “We’re providing more choice than ever before, bringing together the best in digital convenience with our people.
“Alongside our app, our customers can use any Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office or banking hubs for their everyday banking, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.”
