Create a sleep space that feels like a five-star hotel with these easy and affordable updates.
You know that feeling of walking into a boutique hotel bedroom — serene neutral colours, a calm, uncluttered space, and light filtering gently into a cool, restful room?
The good news is you don’t need a full renovation (or a five-star budget) to recreate the look at home. Boutique hotel style is less about expensive furniture and more about thoughtful details – space, light, soft layers, simple colour palettes and a focus on comfort, to create a room centred around getting a good night’s sleep.
To help you get the look, we’ve found a handful of easy updates – all under £30 – that will instantly elevate your bedroom.

1. Start with white bedding
Pristine all-white bedding is the go-to for almost any boutique hotel bedroom – and with good reason. It feels clean and classic, and instantly elevates a space. It’s also incredibly versatile. White works as a blank canvas, so you can layer in neutrals or subtle colour accents to create a space that feels like your own.
White doesn’t have to be boring, either – make texture do the work, whether that’s a crisp, high-thread-count cotton or a subtle jacquard weave.

2. Layer with soft neutrals
Once you have your white base, add cosiness and elegance with cushions, pillows and throws on the bed. Layering is key to creating that five-star hotel feel, and neutrals are the easiest way to achieve it. Think soft taupes, warm coffee shades and muted greens – shades you can easily pair together. A throw over the end of the bed or a couple of cushions instantly adds depth and softness to a room, making the room feel instantly inviting.

3. Add luxurious scents
Beautiful bedrooms are clutter-free to maintain that feeling of calm, where sleep is the focal point. But there is always space for a beautiful scented candle or diffuser to add to the atmosphere. Scented candles are perfect in the master bedroom, for winding down in the evening and creating a relaxed, spa-like atmosphere. In guest bedrooms, a diffuser works well, gently scenting the space throughout the day so it smells fresh the moment you walk in.

4. Create a beautiful bedside table
It’s so easy for a bedside table to become a dumping ground for books, chargers and other clutter. Boutique hotels take the opposite approach – everything feels intentional.
Keep it simple with just a few well-chosen pieces: a carafe or glass for water, a small vase and perhaps one book. It’s less about what you add and more about what you leave out. If you can bare to, keep your phone charger in another room.

5. Upgrade your fabrics
It’s those little extra touches that elevate a hotel bedroom and bring the whole look together. Swapping out everyday essentials for more elevated ones – even affordable versions – makes such a difference. We love waffle towels, for instance, because they immediately bring a spa-like feeling to an ensuite. Stick to white or neutral shades and plain or striped fabrics to ensure the whole room feels cohesive.
