The relatives of a 35-year-old man who lost his life after being discovered with stab injuries in an east London garden have honoured a “beautiful spirit” who brought “love, light and joy” to everyone who crossed his path.
Mark Orabiyi was discovered in the garden of a residence in Rayleigh Road, Silvertown, Newnham, following a police response to reports of a stabbing in nearby Pankhurt Avenue at approximately 9am on Friday, according to the Metropolitan Police. Mr Orabiyi was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival, despite paramedics’ best efforts.
A second man in his 20s, who also sustained stab injuries, continues to receive hospital treatment, officers confirmed. His condition is not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
In a statement, Mr Orabiyi’s family said: “Mark was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend. He brought love, light and joy to our family and to all who knew him. We will always cherish his kindness, beautiful spirit and remarkable talent.
“His presence touched many lives and his memory will remain in our hearts forever. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
Officers have launched a murder investigation and three individuals have been detained on suspicion of murder, the Met confirmed. A 27-year-old man has been released on bail pending further enquiries, while a 24-year old-man and a 25-year-old woman were released with no further action following questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the Met’s investigation, said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts remain with Mark’s family and loved ones.
“Our investigation continues at pace. I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident to speak to police. We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who might have CCTV or other footage from the morning of the incident that could assist our investigation.”
A statement from the Met Police read: “Police were called at around 09:00hrs on Friday, 5 June to reports that a man had been stabbed in Pankhurst Avenue, E16. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and found a 35-year-old man with stab wounds in the garden of a property on nearby Rayleigh Road.
“Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead on his arrival at hospital. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.
“Another man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. He remains in hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening. Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have launched a murder investigation.”
