The current warm spell will continue – and the mercury will rise so much in some areas, it will be warmer than parts of Greece – despite only being days into astronomical spring
Parts of the UK are set to be warmer than Greece on Wednesday – as temperatures rise to 18C.
The pleasant weather will mirror sunny days this week, including Thursday – the hottest day of the year so far – but it’s thought temperatures will drop again this weekend to as low as 6C in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, and 8C in Suffolk. Rain, heaviest across south Wales and parts of the Midlands on Saturday night, will also ruin the recent warm and dry patch.
However, a fresh band of high pressure, coming in from the Atlantic, will send temperatures soaring again – to peak next week on Wednesday. Highs of 18C are anticipated across Southeastern England, including London, and Eastern England. It will be widely at least 16C, even as far north as Doncaster, South Yorkshire, forecasters at Ventusky say.
And it means it will be a particularly pleasant day for most of the UK, warmer than parts of Greece. Weather maps indicate it will also be rainy across Greece, especially in Larissa, on Wednesday while only northern Scotland will see showers here.

Ventusky anticipates temperatures of around 15C for most of Greece on Wednesday, with lows of 12C in the south of the country, including on the island of Syrna. Even Ioannina, popular with tourists, isn’t expected to see anything higher than 14C throughout the day.
The rain will work its way east across Greece, and become heaviest in the afternoon in and around Athens. It could become thundery across the Epirus region, say forecasters.
Most of the UK will not only dodge showers on Wednesday, but also miss them for most of next week. It has been a particularly dry March and the month is set to end in the same pattern, according to meteorologists. This weekend’s drizzle will linger throughout Monday too – when the mercury will struggle to exceed 13C for most regions.
It is when the low pressure clears to the southeast across The Netherlands and Belgum – when the weather improves again. The high pressure will see temperatures rise and, even after Wednesday, it will be a particularly mild end to the week. Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire could see 17C on Thursday, it is understood.
But the transition between March and April could see the return of unsettled conditions, the Met Office says. For the start of April, it writes online: “Initially, a dry interlude is likely with spells of sunshine across many areas. With time, these drier conditions will become more favoured across the south. Further north and northwest, there is a greater chance of rain or showers at times, these accompanied by windier spells and a chance of gales for parts of the far northwest.
“There is a small chance that these wetter, more unsettled conditions could become more widespread for a time. Temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, though chilly nights remain possible where clear skies coincide with light winds.”
