Former Manchester United midfielder Remi Moses is alive and well despite rumours circulating on Wednesday morning that he had passed away in Greece

Former Manchester United midfielder Remi Moses is alive and well – despite rumours that he had sadly passed away. Moses spent eight years of his career with United after making his professional debut with West Bromwich Albion.

He was United’s first-ever black goalscorer and was also included in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-ever team for the defeat at Oxford United in November 1986. However, it was claimed on Wednesday that he had passed away.

Moses and his wife are claimed to be living in Zakynthos, a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. The 65-year-old former midfielder also coached at Doxa Pigadakion for a short spell a couple of years ago.

And in a statement on Wednesday, the Greek outfit claimed it was his wife who informed them of Moses’ death. But journalist Andy Mitten has revealed that Moses is alive and well.

Taking to social media platform X, he wrote: “Understand social media rumours of Remi Moses dying are not true. He’s alive and well. But had he looked on social media, he’d have seen how many people absolutely loved him as a player.”

Replying to Mitten’s post, Reece Blakeley, one of Moses’ children, confirmed: “I have just spoken with my brothers (his sons). Can confirm the legend is still alive and well.” While a United spokesperson said: “Remi’s family have confirmed to us that the rumours of his passing are entirely false. They are baffled about their origins, and report him to be healthy and in good spirits.”

Moses made 199 appearances for United, and earlier today, a statement from Doxa Pigadakion even went as far as revealing when his funeral would take place. The statement read: “Our club had the honour, for a short time, to collaborate in sports with Manchester United footballer, Remi Moses, when in the 2020/2021 season, he was the coach of our women’s team.

“To the fanatical football fans, and not only to the fans of the Bebedos of English football, he will always remain in our minds, as that football player in the mid-80s, who wrote endless kilometers in the midfield of Manchester United.

“His great football moment was the qualification in 1984, against Barcelona, when he personally limited Maradona to these two matches.

“Remi, for several years now, has been a permanent resident of Zakynthos. With our club, and with its people, he has always had communication and a two-way sporting respect.

“These feelings led his wife to contact us immediately yesterday Tuesday morning, to inform us that Remi is no longer with us, and to ask for some small help.

“Our club expresses its deepest condolences to his family. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 13th at 12:00 noon, in the parish of Argassi.”
