If you’ve got some Christmas events coming up but aren’t much of a party dress wearer, a pair of embellished trousers are the perfect alternative. Ideal for keeping you warm, covering up or just for something a little bit different, they’re a great option when you don’t feel like wearing a dress.
Emma Louise Connolly has managed to tracked down the perfect pair of Christmas party trousers with help from Marks and Spencer, as she wore the £55 Satin Elasticated Waist Wide Leg Trousers for an evening out with husband Oliver Proudlock. Proving that an all-black outfit doesn’t have to be boring, she wore head-to-toe black items from the brand, each featuring its own sparkly embellishment.

Not only are Emma’s trousers a chic alternative to a sparkly party dress, they also happen to look just like the much pricier Sister Jane Pearl Bow-Embellished Straight-Leg Mid-Rise Velvet Trousers which would set you back £135. Just like the designer pair, Emma’s M&S trousers have a high waist and wide leg silhouette that’s both flattering and comfortable.
They also feature diamante bow details all over similar to the bow-shaped pearl design on the Sister Jane trousers, with the rhinestones giving even more of a festive, sparkly effect. The Marks & Spencer Satin Elasticated Waist Wide Leg Trousers are also made from a satin-finish material, which gives them a luxurious edge, and have an elasticated waistband for added comfort.
If you want to copy Emma’s head-to-toe look, she opted for an entire outfit from M&S, pairing her Satin Elasticated Waist Wide Leg Trousers with the Embellished Tailored Waistcoat, £49.50, and a pair of the Sparkle Kitten Heel Slingback Shoes, which are £39.50.
You can also shop the M&S Satin Trousers in petite, regular and long lengths, with sizes 6-24 available. They’ve also gotten plenty of great reviews from shoppers, with one saying: “Very stylish, loved the satin feel. Embellishment crystal looked great. Very comfortable.”
However another added: “The large decorations on the trousers dont make for comfortable sitting or moving. The trousers look nice but only if you are not intending to sit or move.”
