With the current cold snap of weather, people are looking for ways to take the edge off
Dunelm is one of many homeware retailers to have a wide range of portable heaters in stock to help UK households through the latest snap of cold weather. One particular device is proving popular with shoppers, as it costs just pennies to run and “throws out heat”.
With Baltic weather still keeping Brits feeling frozen this January, most will be relying on central heating to balance out the winter weather sweeping the country. With people still bridging the gap between an early Christmas payday and the first of the year, every penny counts when running a home.
Those looking for a budget-friendly alternative to a heating system could benefit from Dunelm’s £25 650W 5 Fin Oil-Filled Radiator. It has received rave reviews online, with some customers claiming it can quickly heat a room without requiring the central heating to be turned on.

The compact radiator features thermostatic controls and has earned hundreds of five-star ratings. Many shoppers have insisted that the device “doesn’t take long to warm up” and produces “phenomenal” heat.
There are some similar items on offer elsewhere, such as a £28 Convector Heater (also from Dunelm), which costs around 45p per hour to run. And, B&Q is offering a GoodHome 2000W White Convector Heater for £30.
But, the Dunelm option was highly rated by shoppers. One said: “This looks such a small unit, you wonder how good it will be – no need to worry! The heat output in an average bedroom, playroom, snug or home office is brilliant.”
Another customer shared that they found the device compact yet powerful, adding that it “really throws out warmth”. They noted that the heater helps to “take the edge off” during cold winter mornings.
A third wrote: “Such an efficient heater for its size. Great extra source of heat and Smart Meter is efficient too!” Someone else said: “Lightweight, great for a small room, heats up very quickly, easy to move with a handle.”
However, not all customers were satisfied with the device. One said it “works well but only if you’re sitting next to it”. Another suggested that it “could do with a longer plug”.
A third claimed: “Mine won’t warm up even the smallest box room. It may, depending on the outside temperature, stop it dropping below zero. It might help in a greenhouse in spring, but I can’t see where else it would help.”
Overall, the majority of shoppers were pleased with the device. Out of 317 reviews, over 200 granted it five stars with a further 33 awarding four stars.
