Dunelm has issued an urgent safety warning after 27 products were recalled
Dunelm has issued an urgent warning to customers as a number of items have been withdrawn from its shelves. An update released today, Thursday, May 7, confirmed the items were sold between 2019 and 2026.
The retailer stated on its website: “These products were sold online and in stores between January 2019 and February 2026. We have identified a safety and non-compliance issue with the doorstops.
“The sand sealed within the product may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.”
The company has published a complete list of all affected products – see below for full details. It has also provided guidance to customers on what action to take.
It stated: “If you’ve bought an affected product, please stop using it immediately. Instead, follow the instructions below for details on how to dispose of the product and get a refund.
“If the product is undamaged, place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag and double-tape it securely. If the product is damaged and the sand inside is accessible, gather the sand using wet cloths to avoid generating dust. Wear gloves and a mask. Double-bag the sand and the rest of the product in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, along with the gloves, mask and cloths.
“Keep people away from areas where any sand has been spilt until the area has been cleaned. Dispose of the sealed bag containing the product and materials in your general household waste or return it to any Dunelm store for a full refund.

The government’s gov.uk website also carries details regarding the recall, confirming the products originated from China.
The website states: “The products present a risk to health as the sand inside the doorstops may be contaminated with a quantity of asbestos. Corrective action: The products have been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users by Dunelm.”

Government officials confirm the products fail to comply with the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. The guidance concludes: “The products have been withdrawn from the market and recalled from end users by Dunelm. We recommend owners stop using the products immediately and keep them out of the reach of children. Follow the below instructions for details on disposal and return of the products.”
