Amazon has just slashed the price of its new portable air conditioning unit by £100, and it’s easy to install to keep you cool during the UK’s next heatwave
Temperatures are set to soar again in the coming weeks, and an air conditioning unit is much more effective at keeping you cool than a simple fan. Unlike fans, which simply blow warm air around to make it feel a little cooler, an air con unit will actually cool down the air that it’s blowing out, helping to bring down the temperature inside your home.
Although some units require permanent (and expensive) installation, Amazon’s new-in Portable Air Conditioner can be quickly and easily installed anywhere in your home. And, just in time for the next heatwave, it’s now on sale down from £489.57 to £390, saving you almost £100.

The Portable Air Conditioner cools and dehumidifies the air as well as acting like a fan, with adjustable air flow settings to help cool down any room in your house. The dehumidifier can remove up to 20 litres of moisture from the air each day, reducing humidity indoors and making it feel physically cooler and more comfortable.
You can adjust the temperature setting anywhere between 16°C to 31°C, and the unit will cool down rooms measuring up 15–23 m² (160–250 sq. ft.) in as little as 15 minutes. To make sure it doesn’t interrupt your sleep if installed in a bedroom, or drown out the TV in your living room, it has a quiet mode feature which operates at just 52 decibels, and a 24 hour timer lets you tailor it to your needs.
You can operate the Portable Air Conditioner via a remote control, so no having to constantly get up and down, and this lets you set everything including the mode, temperature, fan speed and timer settings. You can install it in any room, with its 1.5 metre exhaust hose designed to be mounted to your window to help expel all the hot air.
The unit also has an automatic evaporation system that discharges water automatically once the hose has been installed, and comes with a mesh filter and 360° swivel casters which make it easy to move around. As it’s a new launch, it has yet to receive any reviews from shoppers, so if you want something that’s been tried and tested, there are other options available.
Argos has the Bush 9K Air Conditioner which is £375. This can be easily installed in a similar way with a hose out of the window, and has a 4.5 star rating on the Argos website.
If the humidity is the main issue you’re finding at home, a dehumidifier might be a better option.
