People have claimed the device helps them sleep at night during peak season
Dunelm shoppers have been investing in a gadget that they say helps them sleep better at night during the summer, especially if they suffer from a common condition around this time of year – hay fever. Some reported noticing a difference “almost immediately” in the air quality of their bedrooms.
The Met Office recently issued a red ‘very high’ alert for parts of the UK, as pollen levels exploded and hay fever symptoms spiked. As of April 10, areas including Yorkshire, the Midlands, London and the South of England have the highest possible warning in place.
For many sufferers, hay fever tends to feel worse at night. Lying flat in bed can also increase nasal congestion, and any pollen clinging to hair, clothes, and bedding may also trigger symptoms.

The Dunelm Four-Speed White Air Purifier is available to order online for £40, with some stores offering same-day collection. Homeware store bosses claim that this will become “an ally in creating a cleaner, fresher home atmosphere”.
They add: “With four adjustable speeds, this digital wonder efficiently refreshes rooms up to 78 square metres. Our air purifier not only helps you breathe easily but also features removable filters for easy maintenance. Keep your living space feeling light, clean, and comfortable.”
Air purifier alternatives are available from places like Argos, including the Philips 600i Series Air Purifier (£69.99, down from £100), and from John Lewis, including the Blueair 3250i Air Purifier (£129). There are other budget-friendly devices, like IKEA’s UPPÅTVIND air purifier (£29) or The Range’s HEPA Filter USB Desktop Quiet Mini Air Purifier (£27.99), making Dunelm’s version a reasonable middle ground.
In Dunelm’s website reviews of the Four-Speed White Air Purifier, one said: “Bought it for my son who uses it every day and finds it helps alleviate his hay fever.” Another wrote: “Researched this item well before purchasing, and it doesn’t disappoint. All of my family suffers from hay fever, so I am always on the lookout for relief for them.”
A third put: “Really neat and efficient. Very effective at cleaning the air. I can tell from looking at the filter!” And, one more said: “Great air purifier. My husband said from the first use that he could feel a difference in the air.”
However, not all shoppers were impressed, as one claimed: “A good product, but unfortunately, you cannot get filters for them anywhere!” Someone else put: “Can’t buy replacements, and although you can wipe the filter, you cannot clean it. Instructions state you need to replace filters, but no replacements are available, so you will be throwing away the whole unit after a few months.”
Some of these reviews date back to 2025, but as of April 2026, there were no specific products on Dunelm’s website for replacement filters. Shoppers may want to check with customer service before purchasing to see what recommendations the store has.
Despite this complaint, most were pleased with the product, as another five-star reviewer said: “I’ve definitely been sneezing and had itchy eyes way less than before, and the air just seems to feel better too in a way one may not notice until they do once this is operating.”
