Championship club Derby County have reacted with a statement after seven people were injured when a car ploughed into pedestrians in Derby city centre on Saturday night
Derby County say they are “shocked and saddened” after seven people were seriously injured in an incident in Derby city centre. A man has been arrested after a car was driven into pedestrians on Saturday night in Friar Gate.
Police have confirmed that no-one died and the seven injured people sustained non life-threatening injuries. They were rushed to Royal Derby Hospital and Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment.
A man in his 30s, who is originally from India, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury through dangerous driving, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving
Police say there is “no ongoing risk to the public” and they are keeping an “open mind as to the motives”. Forensic investigators were still on the scene on Sunday morning and the investigations continue.

The Rams posted on social media: “Derby County Football Club is shocked and saddened by the incident in the city centre last night, in which a number of people were injured. Our thoughts are with all those affected, their families, and the wider community at this difficult time.
“We would also like to place on record our sincere thanks to the emergency services who responded so quickly and professionally.”
Derbyshire County Cricket Club wrote: “The thoughts of everyone at Derbyshire County Cricket Club are with those affected by the tragic incident in Derby yesterday evening.”
Nadine Peatfield, leader of Derby City Council, said in a statement: “I am horrified by the incident in our city centre on Saturday evening, where several pedestrians were injured after being struck by a vehicle.
“My thoughts, and those of the entire city, are with those injured, their families, and everyone who witnessed this distressing event. I want to thank the emergency services for their rapid response and professional care under such difficult circumstances.
“Our frontline responders do an incredible job, and the safety of our residents remains our absolute priority We are working closely with Derbyshire Police as they investigate the circumstances of this incident. I urge anyone with information to contact the Police immediately to assist with their investigation.”
“You see these incidents around the world but you never expect them to happen in your city, your home,” Catherine Atkinson, Labour MP for Derby North, told BBC Radio Derby.
“I can’t imagine what people who have been hurt or witnessed the incident are going through. There will be many people throughout the night and today who will be desperately checking with loved ones to see if they are ok.”
