The body of a 17-year-old boy has been found in a lake near a castle in North Wales.
Emergency services scrambled to Chirk Castle in Wrexham on Tuesday afternoon following a report that the teenager had entered the water of a lake near the castle. North Wales Police confirmed on Thursday that a body had been recovered after specialist search and rescue teams carried out extensive searches in the lake. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Detective Chief Superintendent Sian Beck said: “My deepest thoughts and condolences are with his loved ones, who are being supported by specialist officers following this tragic incident. Formal identification is yet to take place, but his family have been informed. We kindly ask that the privacy of the family is respected at this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for the force previously said: “Emergency Services are currently responding to an incident at Chirk Castle. A 17-year-old male is believed to have entered water within the castle’s grounds yesterday afternoon and has not been seen since. Specialist search and rescue teams are continuing their efforts to locate the missing teenager.”

A spokesperson for National Trust Cymru confirmed on Tuesday that it provided crews access to a lake.
West Midlands Ambulance Service were in attendance alongside crews from the Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS). A WAS spokesperson said: “We were called at around 4pm yesterday (Tuesday) to an incident at Chirk Castle, Wrexham. We sent one emergency ambulance to the scene, where the crew was supported by one Cymru High Acuity Response Unit and two operations managers. Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service colleagues also attended in a Wales Air Ambulance charity helicopter.”
