South Wales Police’s murder investigation continues following the death of the woman who was found seriously injured at an address on South Morgan Place in Riverside, Cardiff
A man was last night arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Cardiff.
Officers from South Wales Police were called to South Morgan Place in the Riverside area of the city at 7.37am on Thursday to reports of a seriously injured woman. Paramedics also attended the incident, and despite their best efforts, the woman in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene, the force said.
Last night, South Wales Police confirmed a 37-year-old man, known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder and the force is not looking for anyone else in connection with the death. However, officers continue to appeal for information following the passing, described by neighbours as “alarming”.
The suspect, who remains in police custody, was arrested in the Splott area of the city, around three miles east of the address at which the woman was discovered.
Speaking last night, Detective Superintendent Mark O’Shea, of South Wales Police, said: “We have arrested one man in his 30s on suspicion of murder and we are not looking for anyone else in connection. Residents will notice an increased police presence in the area while we investigate.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police. Anyone who was in or near South Morgan Place, or Seawall Road, between 7.30am and 8.30am, is asked to check their private CCTV or dashcam footage.
The force said they particularly want to hear from people who were travelling between these areas, including Wellington Street, Clare Road, Penarth Road and East Tyndall Street, during this time who have not yet spoken with officers.
One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “The police wouldn’t tell me anything this morning. They asked me if I had seen anything, but I wasn’t out of bed yet when it happened.
“It’s a bit alarming, something like that happening so close to your house. I think this is the first time anything like this has happened round here that I can remember.”
Another neighbour, who also asked not to be named, said the police had not told them anything about what had happened. She believed the incident had happened outside a block of flats, which had been cordoned off by the police throughout Thursday.
One woman, who lives in the flats inside the police cordon, said she heard a scream at around 7.30am on Thursday. She thought it was children before the police arrived. Roads in the area, which is in Cardiff’s west, were closed for several hours while officers with South Wales Police continued the investigation yesterday.
