You could work for the Royal Family, and live on Royal grounds
Buckingham Palace is currently seeking new staff members, with job opportunities boasting “a generous benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and life priorities”. One of the roles is a live-in position, meaning successful applicants will relocate to Royal premises.
This particular vacancy requires no prior experience whatsoever. The Kitchen Porter role has a closing date of Saturday, March 21, with employment beginning in June 2026 on a fixed term contract. It’s a full-time position involving up to 45 hours weekly, Monday through Sunday, though staff work only five days within any seven-day period.
While experience “in a similar role would be an advantage”, it’s not a requirement as comprehensive on-site training will be provided. Additional desirable qualities include taking pride in one’s work, enjoying being part of a team, being “happy to get involved”, and being “keen to develop your skills and gain experience within an exceptional team environment”.
A specific salary is not mentioned on the advertisement, though pay is said to be “competitive plus benefits”. Describing the job, the listing goes on to say “feeling proud of your contribution and working with a shared and unique purpose is what makes working for the Royal Household so different.”
The day-to-day of the job will include looking after the kitchen to make sure chefs have all they need to prepare meals, with tasks such as cleaning surfaces, equipment and utensils. The successful candidate will also help with basic food preparation when required.
The advertisement adds: “Our team members work collaboratively, with the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of the kitchen. With training and support embedded in our team culture, you’ll be encouraged to grow your skills.
“Although based at Buckingham Palace, you’ll also work at different Royal residences throughout the year.”
