Brits can find their historical finance agreements to see if they’ve been affected by the car finance scandal – and therefore potentially owed compensation

Brits can find out if they might be due compensation for their car finance agreements, after an investigation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) found that some car finance agreements sold between April 2007 and November 2024 may be considered unfair because they involve inadequate disclosure.

If you suspect you may have been affected, trying to find your agreements can feel like a daunting task. Luckily, Make a PCP Claim is here to help. Instead of spending hours combing through old files and bank statements, in approximately 60 seconds, Make a PCP Claim’s technology does the heavy lifting for you and finds your agreements. The system integrates with credit reference agencies to auto-find past agreements. This works even if the driver has changed addresses or forgotten the lender.

In fact, 150,000+ drivers have already used the platform Make a PCP Claim to find their agreements, dating back to 2007 for cars, vans and motorbikes.

The partner law firm, HD Law, which currently has a 4.7 rating on TrustPilot from 2,000+ reviews, can then help you determine whether you could be eligible to make a claim.

The FCA has launched a redress scheme for Brits who think they may have been affected, with the average payout set to be around £830 per agreement. The FCA estimates that 75% of eligible consumers will make a claim. If so, total redress paid would be £7.5billion.

According to HD Law’s track record, drivers could receive over twice the £830 figure suggested by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), with some customers receiving an average of £1,846.23* per car financed.

The law firm, led by Kevin Durkin, is the only firm to have successfully led a PCP case to the Supreme Court (the Johnson v FirstRand case). The company pioneered the PCP legal victory and is now looking to help other motorists get the justice they deserve.

HD Law goes further when pursuing your claim through the courts, where they seek a full refund of the commission paid. Because a judge can review the entire lending agreement, payouts can be substantially larger.

If you believe you were mis-sold car finance, you can find out more about the FCA’s free redress scheme here. However, using the scheme will not be mandatory. Consumers may still choose to pursue legal action through the courts instead. You are under no obligation to make a claim via a law firm or claims management company.

Head to makeapcpclaim.co.uk to find your agreements in approximately 60 seconds, and see if you could be eligible to make a claim.

*£1,846.23 is the average average claim value per agreement of the partner law firm, HD Law as of July 31st 2025.

Make a PCP Claim is owned and operated by Fountain Finance Limited, which is registered in England and Wales. Fountain Finances Ltd is a claims management company (CMC). You can claim for free, without using a CMC, first to your lender or to the FOS. Fountain Finances Ltd will be paid a fee by their partner law firm for referring your case to them as part of an ongoing marketing agreement. *£1,846.23 is the average redress achieved by their partner law firm. This figure is the average claim value per agreement of their partner law firm, HD Law as of July 31st 2025. The FCA has introduced a free to use motor finance redress scheme.
