The 66-year-old was pulled unconscious from the pool by her horrified partner on the Greek island of Zante

A British woman has died after her partner found her unconscious in a swimming pool while on holiday in Greece.

Her partner made the tragic discovery while the pair were holidaying in a villa on the island of Zante.

Local media said: “A person with knowledge of how to do it tried to resuscitate her before emergency services arrived.”

When emergency services arrived they reportedly took over CPR. The woman however registered no pulse and was rushed to a nearby hospital shortly after 4.30pm where she was pronounced dead.

The British couple were on holiday in Greece at the time of the tragic incident. Authorities have now launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of her death.

The identity of the victim remains unknown at this time.

The news comes after a British holidaymaker was injured in an accident on the Greek island of Rhodes and was put in an induced coma last month.

Brit Ethan was put in an induced coma following an accident on the Greek island of Rhodes on Wednesday April 15.

He reportedly suffered a traumatic brain injury, which meant he needed to be placed in the induced coma, as well as lung contusions and multiple fractures across his body, his partner said.

His girlfriend Olivia Allsopp shared the distressing details in a post shared on GoFundMe which raised £33,130 in order to bring Ethan home for treatment. In an update two weeks ago she said: “Ethan is still in ICU but it is slowly looking more positive for him. It’s going to be a long and difficult road for him but we keep praying for a full and healthy recovery.”
