A man wanted on recall to prison posted a boasting topless selfie in response to a police appeal for his arrest on social media. But it seems like officers were the ones with the last laugh
A fugitive who mocked police on social media has had justice catch up to him, with the Manchester man sharing a far more flattering image of himself in response to a social media appeal calling on the public to help track him down.
Last month, Greater Manchester Police’ s Wythenshawe division shared a public appeal via Facebook, calling on locals to let them know as they continued to hunt for 32-year-old Nathan Muir, who was on the lam.
It would seem that Muir was less than impressed by the mugshot shared by police, logging on to Facebook himself to share an alternative image in the comments section. Alongside the image, which featured so many abs in it it should be deemed criminal, Muir – who was still at large – wrote: “Could of done a better pic (sic).”
The photo appears to have been taken during his time behind bars. But now it would seem that the prison gym has got back its star member, with officers eventually catching up to him. He has since been returned to prison.
The initial appeal sought help in finding Muir, who reportedly had connections to Wythenshawe, Hale and Altrincham but no fixed abode, as he was wanted ‘on recall to prison’, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The post, featuring Muir’s mug shot, read: “#WANTED | Police are appealing for the public’s help to find a wanted man from Greater Manchester. Nathan Muir (23/09/1994) of no fixed abode, is wanted on recall to prison.
“He is believed to have links to #Wythenshawe, #Hale and #Altrincham. Any info? Please contact 101 or 0161 856 1748 with information regarding his whereabouts.”
Shortly after, a Facebook profile under the name ‘Nay Muir’ posted a shirtless selfie in the comments, captioned: “Could of done a better pic [sic].”
The image received ‘likes’ from hundreds of people. This was followed by AI-generated images of Muir enjoying a pint and sunbathing outside Wythenshawe police station.
Today, GMP Wythenshawe shared an update about the case on its Facebook page, featuring another decidedly untoned picture of Muir.
The post stated: “While his famous abs appear to have escaped justice, he didn’t.
“Remember Nathan Muir who wanted a “better pic” on his recall to prison appeal? Good news, Muir was arrested this morning at an address in #Stockport following extensive enquiries and has been sent back to prison.
“We’d like to thank those who shared our appeal.”
Users supported the police’s approach, with one commenting that Muir had been ‘trolled by the feds’.
