Brits’ biggest thrills have been charted by a new poll which revealed bagging a bargain is the most exciting part of their day, with the top spot taken by discount
Bagging a bargain is life’s biggest thrill, says a poll.
Researchers asked people to reveal the most exciting things in everyday life, with getting a good deal on a purchase (41 per cent) claiming the top spot – beating receiving a sexy text message (19 per cent) and even a full-blown night of passion with your other half (23 per cent).
Other things Brits find more exciting than sex, are orderly queues (31 per cent), cups of tea (27 per cent) and parking their car perfectly (26 per cent). Watching the bin men take your bins also came high on the list of life’s biggest buzzes (23 per cent), while 24 feel excited to sleep in fresh bed sheets.
More than one in five (21 per cent) reckon finishing a Sudoku is one of life’s biggest buzzes. The research of 2,000 uncovered a host of thrills for Brits, with one in five (19 per cent) getting more of a buzz by answering correctly on University Challenge than going on a wild night out with their mates (16 per cent).

More than one in five (21 per cent) reckon finishing a Sudoku is one of life’s biggest buzzes. But it’s bagging a bargain which really floats the nation’s boats, and 20 per cent admit to getting a rush just from buying something, no matter how big or small the purchase is.
Shoppers in York (32 per cent), Aberdeen (30 per cent) and London (30 per cent) get the biggest thrill from a purchase, along with those in Oxford (26 per cent) and Leeds (25 per cent).
Rosie Fitzgerald, of OnBuy, commissioned the research, said: “It’s clear from the research that the majority of us are looking for little thrilling moments that we can celebrate and enjoy. In an age where many of us are feeling the financial pinch, these moments of excitement – like getting instant cashback on your everyday purchases – can make a difference.
“We know saving money is more important now than ever, especially when buying a product. Not only is it about financial security but it’s also about the rush and joy of knowing you’ve got a great deal.” The survey went on to find that six in ten (60 per cent) embrace and love getting a thrill from small moments, with 68 per cent insisting it’s important to get a thrill where you can, especially with the way life is at the moment.
Rosie added: “It’s easy to see, while Brits are watching the pennies more than ever, that small financial wins feel like a big thrill. We truly understand the value of this. You can often get the same product, from the same seller, at the same price and using the same delivery methods from OnBuy as you do with the likes of Amazon or eBay, only with us you also get instant cashback – and you don’t have to wait for so-called special offers during the likes of Black Friday.
“Our message at OnBuy is to offer not just exceptional value for money, but also those everyday thrills that put a smile on your face – whether it’s bagging a bargain or watching your cashback accumulate.”
Elsewhere, their research showed on average, the nation experiences an average of 16 little thrills a week, with a third (35 per cent) making a special effort to celebrate them. A further third (33 per cent) encourage friends and family to do the same and revel in their mini boosts. One in five (20 per cent) WISH their life was more exciting.
