Lucy Harrison, 23, was fatally shot in the chest by her father Kris after she and her boyfriend flew to Texas to stay with him following Donald Trump’s election victory
- Boohoo fashion buyer Lucy was shot by her dad while she stayed at his home in Prosper, about 37 miles north of Dallas. Mr Harrison, described as a functioning alcoholic, claimed the gun went off accidentally shortly before 3pm on January 10 last year.
- UK coroner announced she found the 23-year-old died due to unlawful killing on the grounds of gross negligence manslaughter. Coroner Devonish concluded the inquest at Cheshire Coroner’s Courton Thursday and said she found the father’s “actions to be reckless.”
- Lucy’s mum Jane Coates said Lucy had been “failed” by gun laws in Texas and decisions made by police in Prosper after they failed to test him for alcohol after the shooting. A grand jury in the US had determined there was insufficient evidence to charge anyone in connection with Lucy’s death.
- Lucy’s boyfriend Sam Littler, who travelled with her to the US, said she became upset earlier in the day after the pair became embroiled in an argument over Trump, who was due to be inaugurated as president later that month. He said Mr Harrison took his daughter by the hand from the kitchen to his ground floor bedroom where he kept a Glock semi-automatic handgun in his bedside cabinet.
- Mr Harrison claimed to have bought the weapon to give his family a “sense of security” and, as it was for home defence, Texas laws meant he did not need a licence. He said the gun went off accidentally as he was showing her.
