The friends of an “adored mother” and police officer who sadly died are appealing for help on behalf of her children.
Coleen Mellor, a 40-year-old West Yorkshire Police sergeant, was found dead at her home in Wakefield on Thursday, January 15. Her death is not being treated as suspicious. Her friends are now hoping to raise money to support her heartbroken family, Yorkshire Live reports.
In a GoFundMe page set up in her memory, organisers said: “Coleen was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her, but most importantly a devoted mother. “Coleen was not only an incredible dedicated police sergeant, but an adored mother… beloved daughter… precious sister… and an amazing friend.”
The statement added that Coleen’s sons’ father is “now raising the boys alone, while they face unimaginable grief”. It continued: “While we cannot replace the love of a mother, we can surround (them) with the support from the community for the two boys she loved with all her heart. The boys loved their mum so deeply, and facing their future without her is unimaginable.”
“I have set up a GoFundMe to support (them) through this incredibly difficult time. The funds raised will help to give them some breathing space. Whether that’s to help with everyday costs, time off work… or simply space to grieve and begin to heal. If you are able to give, please do. If you can’t, even sharing this message means so much.”
Paying tribute to her colleague, Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Jones previously said: “Coleen was well-respected and valued by all those who knew and worked with her.
“Her death has come as a great shock to everyone at West Yorkshire Police, and my thoughts remain with Coleen’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”
