Emma Raducanu is on the lookout for a 10th tennis coach to guide her in her short but incredibly sweet career, after parting ways with Francis Roig on Thursday afternoon
Emma Raducanu has announced she has split with her coach Francis Roig – and will now look for her 10th different coach since turning professional. The writing was on the wall after the 2021 US Open champion lost in the second round of the Australian Open last week to world No.55 Anastasia Potapova.
The British No.1 said: “I want to be playing a different way. I need to work on playing in a way more similar to how I was playing when I was younger.”
Spaniard Roig, a former coach of Rafa Nadal, joined Raducanu’s team last summer. She played her first Wimbledon with Nigel Sears as her coach and won in New York with Andrew Richardson.
Her career since has been blighted by injuries and poor form and a high turnover of coaches – Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Nick Cavaday, Vlademir Platenik, Mark Petchey and now Roig.
Taking to the stories section of her Instagram account on Thursday afternoon, Raducanu shared a photograph of herself and Roig smiling on a teebox while playing golf.
Captioning the picture, she wrote: “Francis, thank you for our time together. You have been more than a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we spent together on and off the court.
“While we have come to the conclusion together that we ought not to move forward, please know that I am very grateful for all that you have taught me and fond of our time shared.”

Raducanu is due to next play the WTA 250 event in Cluj, Romania starting on February 1. It comes as Jamie Murray has seemingly been proven right after predicting that a split between Raducanu and Roig would ensue in the aftermath of the Australian Open.
