Delays in a 12-year-old boy’s autism diagnosis did not contribute to his death, a coroner has concluded.

Riley was due to start a new term at Ashfield School on September 3, 2024, after a managed move from his former school Quarrydale Academy, where he was “unsettled” and excluded a number of times due to his behaviour. His family had been trying to get him an autism diagnosis for three years when he died on September 1, 2024, NottinghamshireLive reports.
The 12-year-old was diagnosed with ADHD in November 2021, but an autism spectrum disorder assessment came back as “inconclusive”. This meant that, if further concerns were raised in the future, the assessment could have been done again, but Riley never received a diagnosis for autism.
