Northumbria Police are appealing for information after a five-year-old boy was attacked by a dog on a train between Benton and Palmersville stations on the weekend
Police have launched a manhunt after a child was mauled on the train by a ruthless dog in broad daylight.
The victim was travelling with his parent on Saturday, shortly after mid-day. The animal suddenly pounced on him and latched onto his arm – leaving the boy with a puncture mark.
He was rushed to hospital with his injuries following the horror attack. Northumbria Police have since released an image of a man they’d like to speak to in connection to the attack. He is a white male, with brown hair and was wearing a blue jacket.

A spokesperson for the force said on Twitter: “Were you on a Metro train travelling between Benton and Palmersville stations at 12.05pm on Saturday, April 5? You could help as we investigate a report that a boy was bitten by a dog.
“We received a report that a five-year-old boy was bitten on his left arm by a dog while on the train. The boy, who was with his mother at the time, sustained a puncture mark and bruising to his arm.
“He went to hospital for treatment of his injuries and was later discharged. Today, we are releasing images of a man we would like to trace. He was in the area at the time and we believe he may be able to assist us with our enquiries.
“We appreciate that the images in our appeal are not the clearest, but hope that someone will recognise the man.
