The high street retailer is selling a storage item that arguably resembles a pricier design
B&M is selling a £14 item that looks ‘fabulous’ in bathrooms. The homeware store could have just the thing for shoppers who want to upgrade their storage options.
The discount chain has launched a ‘stylish’ basket that is ‘ideal for storing towels’. The item could also be compared to another design. B&M’s Bathroom Woven Storage Basket arguably resembles John Lewis’ Bulrush Double Laundry Basket. However, the John Lewis basket is more expensive, currently priced at £90. As such, it could be good news for bargain hunters.
While shoppers should be aware that the designs are not identical, the B&M basket could impress fans of the John Lewis style looking for a cheaper, smaller alternative. Both retailers are selling woven storage baskets in a natural colour with side handles and a matching lid.
Nonetheless, shoppers might still prefer the look of the pricier basket, made of bulrush and featuring compartments. In contrast, B&M’s fabric is not specified. There’s also a size difference. B&M’s basket measures 36×18.5x32cm, while the John Lewis version is larger at 59x55x36cm.
For any customers who are undecided, it’s well worth comparing the product images and descriptions. Showcasing the Bathroom Woven Storage Basket online, B&M wrote: “Bring some stylish storage into your home with this fabulous Bathroom Woven Storage Basket. Ideal for storing towels.” The basket is available in white, grey or natural colours.
Showcasing the Bulrush Double Laundry Basket, John Lewis said: “Expertly handwoven from natural bulrush, this basket brings warmth, texture, and a calming natural charm to any room. Side handles make it simple to move, even when full.
“Thoughtfully designed with two spacious compartments, it lets you separate laundry—lights, darks, towels, or delicates—right from the start, making wash day quicker and more efficient. Bulrush is a sustainable grass that can grow in brackish waters, to help improve soil and water quality and can be harvested year-round.”
For those buying from John Lewis, it is also possible to read reviews before making a purchase. The basket has an average rating of 4.7 out of five from customers.
For example, a happy shopper said: “Really happy with this. It looks great in the room and doesn’t feel like a typical laundry basket. The colour is really warm and the natural material gives it a softer, more homely feel.
“The two sections are really useful and make it much easier to split colours as you go, so everything’s ready to put straight in the wash rather than having to sort through it later. The lid sits neatly and keeps everything out of sight, which helps the room feel tidier. Good size and holds plenty without being bulky.”
