An Amazon delivery van has been abandoned on ‘Britain’s deadliest path’ after following a GPS route to Foulness Island.
The vehicle, which has the distinctive Amazon appearance, was pictured stuck on mudflats on the Essex coast. HM Coastguard Southend confirmed they were called out on Sunday, February 15 to reports that an Amazon Delivery Van had driven via Wakering Stairs onto The Broomway after following a GPS route to take it onto Foulness Island..
The Broomway is a 600 years old 6 mile ‘walking’ path out into the Thames Estuary and is not for vehicles. It is recommended that the route should only be walked on with a guide who knows the mud flats. It is an extremley dangerous area and is on MOD property only free to access when the firing ranges are not active and barrier is open.

The correct route onto Foulness Island is via the left barrier via Qinetiq security office.
HM Coastguard Southend DSO spoke to the Qinetiq security office who confirmed they were aware of the van and that the passenger and driver had driven on to the mudflats on Saturday evening. The delivery driver had removed themselves from the van and reported the incident to Amazon. Amazon arranged with a local farmer to extract the vehicle Sunday afternoon.
A spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard’s primary concern was for the safety of the occupants and any possible pollution. With the occupants confirmed to be safe and the vehicle to be removed later today, Coastguard Officers were stood down.”
At 3.30pm on Sunday the coastguard confimred the Amazon vehicle had been recovered.
Essex residence saw the funny side, one commented on the Facebook post: “Maybe Kevin the seal ordered something,” another said: “Had to look at the date to see if it was April 1st.”
The Mirror has contacted Amazon for comment.
