Listeners have raved about the Harry Potter books on Audible. One fan of Philosopher’s Stone said as part of a longer review: “This isn’t just an audio ‘book’ – it’s an experience… truly unique and immersive, like them or not Amazon have smashed it with this production (along with the great voice acting).”
Another added: “Loving everything about this audiobook, the voice actors, the music, the background noise, all fantastic. Use headphones for the best experience.”
The Deathly Hallows has also proved popular, with one reviewer saying: “Absolutely loved these full cast versions of Harry Potter. The cast were brilliant and the music and sound effects just brought the whole series to life. I wish I could find a better description, but they really are just magical!”
Some people removed a star, for example this person said in a longer review: “Hermione’s voice is very grating. I’m genuinely sorry to give this feedback but it stood out for me and unfortunately distracted me from the storytelling. Whenever Hermione was angry, distressed, or fuming the actor was just too over the top for my liking.”
Another said: “Unfortunately the delivery of Harry’s part was hugely disappointing. Felt as though each line was delivered through gritted teeth, and not with genuine feeling. Otherwise, the tale and delivery were as spellbinding as ever.”
Overall, most people were happy as one person said: “Just everything about all 7 of these audiobooks is amazing! The original audiobook, read by Stephen Fry, is still amazing but this full cast edition adds so much more to the experience than just one person could ever do. The positional audio, the echoing of footsteps in the halls of Hogwarts, the sound effects! It’s like you are placed smack dab in the middle of every scene and it’s almost like you are actually there, experiencing the story first hand.”
