Major UK supermarkets including Lidl, Aldi, Tesco, Asda and Morrisons will be operating different hours during the May Bank Holiday weekend – check opening and closing times before you shop
This weekend, Brits are set to enjoy an extra day away from work thanks to the late May bank holiday falling on Monday.
While some will opt to unwind and take it easy, others will be making use of their time off to tackle chores including replenishing their fridges and cupboards.
Those planning to utilise the additional day off for supermarket trips need to be mindful of amended opening hours as numerous stores will be shutting earlier and opening later than normal on the bank holiday, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Here are the opening times on Monday, May 25 for Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Tesco and M&S.
Aldi
Britain’s biggest discounter will operate from 8am to 8pm on Monday.
Rachel Geary, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “The late May bank holiday is the perfect chance to enjoy great food, make the most of the longer days and spend quality time with friends and family.”
Lidl
Branches outside the M25 and in Wales will trade between 8am and 10pm on Monday. London and Scottish outlets will operate as normal.
Customers are advised to verify everything online before heading out.
Asda
Asda branches will trade between 8am and 8pm on the bank holiday. Meanwhile its Asda Express sites typically stay open 24 hours or until their standard late-night closing time.
Sainsbury’s
Most supermarkets will operate from 8am until 8pm this coming Monday. The convenience outlets will trade as usual between 7am and 11pm.
Morrisons On bank holiday Monday, most large Morrisons supermarkets across England and Wales will operate from 7am until 8pm. However, the chain noted some branches may shut earlier than usual, depending on your area.
Smaller Morrisons Daily convenience shops will maintain their regular hours.
Tesco
The UK’s biggest supermarket chain confirmed that bank holiday Monday opening times will differ by location. Customers are encouraged to verify their local branch hours using the store locator here.
Most large stores and large Express branches throughout England and Wales will trade from 8am until 6pm. Most Isle of Man branches will remain open between 7am and 10pm.
For anyone heading to Scotland for the weekend, large Express branches there will operate from 7am until 10pm. Most large stores and large Express branches in Northern Ireland will maintain their standard hours.
Tesco confirmed that standard Express stores will see no changes to their opening times.
M&S
Marks and Spencer food halls will welcome shoppers slightly later than most rivals, with stores opening at 8.30am and shutting at 6pm.
