A major North East route has been closed down, with National Highways issuing a statement warning commuters to expect it closed throughout the night after a motorcycle and an HGV collided on the carriageway.
The A1M in County Durham is now closed in both directions between junction 63 at Chester le Street and junction 62 at Durham after the incident on Monday evening, December 22.
National Highways said to The Mirror: “All traffic caught within the closure was released by 7.45pm. “Due to the nature of the incident and investigation works continuing, the closures are expected to remain in place throughout the night.”
