‘Continued bombing in the Middle East is putting an already fragile pause in hostilities at risk – with the threat of dragging the region back into war’
Cease this bloodshed
A ceasefire should stop the killing, not legitimise who gets bombed next.
Yet with Lebanon left out of the agreement, Israeli strikes continue to pound the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists his campaign will continue despite a two-week truce on Iranian territory.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has branded the escalation a massacre, and he is right. Civilian lives cannot be written off simply because of loopholes in diplomacy.
This continued bombing risks shattering an already fragile pause and dragging the region back towards full-blown war. On his visit to Saudi Arabia, Keir Starmer called on Netanyahu to halt the attacks.
Now he and other world leaders must do more, as words will quickly ring hollow while missiles continue to fall. A ceasefire that risks reigniting war is no ceasefire at all.
The gift of life
Lives are continuing to be saved around the world thanks to the global reach of the Mirror’s organ donation appeal.
Bromsgrove leukaemia patient Leo Sproson, 17, received life-saving stem cells in February after we appealed on his behalf. Five thousand miles away, Zambian Jackson Makungu, also 17, is recovering after we teamed up with blood cancer charity DKMS to arrange a bone marrow transplant in India.
Now three other lives have been saved after the family of tragic teenager Orla Wates, who died last week following a motorbike crash in Vietnam, made a generous and wonderful decision to donate her organs. These stories show the value of donation: hope from heartbreak, life from loss. Please join the stem cell and organ donation registers.
It’s hair-racing
THERE is something touching about trainer Ginger McCain’s grandson Toby carrying a lock of Red Rum’s hair.
Whatever Toby’s odds on his Grand National debut, it’s a stirring reminder that the exciting race still captures imaginations like no other.
