The ‘easy to use’ multipurpose gadget can be used on the skin and scalp – and one user said they noticed ‘results in the first three weeks of use’
Hair can thin or go patchy for a variety of reasons, ranging from ageing and postpartum to genetics and hormones. Growing our locks can often prove both tricky and costly, requiring significant patience.
While many of us turn to topical treatments to help with hair quality, some users have turned to a red light gadget to help with their hair, and have made interesting observations. This Works’ advanced red light system is a multipurpose beauty tool that can be used on both the skin and hair, all from the comfort of the user’s own home.
The brand claims the complete red light therapy system has been designed for ‘amplified visible results, including improvement in cellulite, scars, loose skin, neck wrinkles, stomach firmness and hair density.’ With many of us buying multiple products to help strengthen our beauty routines, the gadget could represent a potential saving of both time and money compared to investing in and using a variety of products or booking salon appointments.

The £144 advanced red light system is actually worth £244, and comes with three red light power serums, which This Works says is equivalent to 6 months of treatment. This can be used on the face, body and scalp. The set also comes with a free red light duo body wrap worth £100.
The red light system has been developed by This Works founder Dr Anna Persaud to bring ‘clinically recognised wavelengths and light-activated skincare’ to everyday routines. Beauty lovers should aim to use the red light system 3–5 times per week on clean dry skin or the scalp. Consistent at-home use is required for the system to support improvements according to the brand.

This Works used a panel to test the red light system over time. The users shared how the gadget fits into daily life and any visible improvements they saw across their skin tone, texture, firmness and overall hair quality.
The red light system was used by the panel five times weekly over a period of 12 weeks. This Works reports that of those testing the device 83% said skin felt smoother, 82% saw improved skin condition and 73% saw an improvement in hair condition.
One user said that while they initially couldn’t see any change, they did note the device was ‘really simple to use.’ They continued to say that after persisting, they started to see visible results.
In a video testimonial, the tester said: “The first couple of weeks I didn’t really notice any difference, but after that when I was showering, washing my hair and brushing my hair I really noticed that a lot less hair was starting to fall out. Even my hairdresser now after the three months is commenting on how thick my hair feels, I used to have quite a patchy hairline and it’s all grown back in.”
Elsewhere, Boots offers the Stylpro Root Renew Red Light Hairbrush for £39.99. It claims to ‘deliver targeted light therapy directly to your scalp.’
Meanwhile, the Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Anti-Ageing & Blemish Repair Mask FW312UK in Blue Frost is now £269.99, down from £299.99. It has various modes including ‘Better Ageing, Blemish Repair, and Under-Eye Revive.’
Back to This Works, and another tester said in their video review: “I started to notice results in the first three weeks using it. I notice less hair fall when brushing and washing my hair, and it was thicker and shinier and more manageable.”
It is worth noting that as referenced by the first tester, users are likely to need patience to start seeing results with consistent use.
The reviewer went on to say: “It’s easy to use and fitted into my night time routine perfectly. It was just a case of pairing a small portion of the serum into the palm of my hand, massage it into my scalp, into the area I wanted to treat, and wrapping the device round my head.
They continued as part of a lengthy review: “It’s just made such a difference to my confidence and I would highly recommend it.”
