Need to know: Tesco brings back free fruit scheme to help families during summer holidays
- Tesco has brought back its popular ‘Free Fruit for Kids’ scheme. It is designed to help families struggling during the summer holidays.
- Children can pick up free apples at over 800 large Tesco stores and selected Express locations from July 20 to August 30. The initiative also extends to Click and Collect services.
- Tesco said on Instagram: “Free Fruit for Kids is back this summer”. The supermarket said it helps children get one of their five-a-day.
- The supermarket is also continuing its ‘Kids Eat Free’ offer in 317 cafés across the UK, which has been expanded to include weekends. Customers can get free children’s meals with any adult purchase, starting at 60p.
- Tesco is also selling pre-filled food donation bags for £2-£4. They help support local food banks through charity partners Felix and Trussell.
- Claire De Silva, Head of Communities at Tesco, said: “When you’re out doing your weekly shop this summer, dropping a few tins into a food collection point, picking up a food donation bag in our stores or rounding up our grocery bill, can make a difference to the lives of thousands of children.” The retailer aims to provide one million school-aged children with free fruit and vegetables by July 2029.
