‘We did just one gentle coat, so that her skin looked even and radiant,’ says Mel C’s tanning pro
Mel C said ‘I do’ last weekend in a custom dress, designed by her Spice Girls pal Victoria Beckham– and the strappy gown proved to be the perfect pairing for her wedding day fake tan.
Mel entrusted pro tanner James Harknett to ensure her bridal glow was even, natural and would look great in photos. Taking a scan of the snaps from the big day, we can confidently say he certainly delivered on those fronts. Speaking to Good Housekeeping, James revealed the secrets behind her glow – and how brides can copy the look for themselves, even if they don’t have an expert at their fingertips.
James explained: ‘I used my Three Warriors fast-acting formula and I told her, “I only want you to leave it on for about four hours, then rinse it off”. We did just one gentle coat, so that her skin looked even and radiant. That meant there was a really nice contrast with the dress and her skin, but she didn’t look fake tanned – just glowing.’

Sporty Spice’s Aussie glow may have come from a professionally angled spray gun, but the product with ‘a very similar result’ that can be shopped to give her exact shade is the Three Warriors Tanning Mousse. If you act fast, you can pick up the Three Warriors Mousse Tan & Mitt Duo from QVC for £13.20 today instead of £39.96, giving you a whopping 66% saving.
This Australian-made self-tan duo makes achieving a natural-looking bronze simple. The lightweight Self-Tan Mousse glides onto skin, developing into an even, streak-free finish when paired with the brand’s double-sided Application Tanning Mitt. Enriched with skin-loving aloe vera, coconut and olive oils, the formula helps keep skin feeling hydrated while delivering believable colour, finished with a fresh lime and vanilla scent (no biscuity aroma here!).
To use, exfoliate beforehand, apply the mousse evenly using the mitt, then rinse off the guide colour after your chosen development time with a quick 60-second shower, allowing the tan to continue developing for a flawless finish.
James also goes on to explain that to complement her subtle tan, he told Mel to use ‘a lovely finishing product’. Though there are plenty of options on the market, he says “Kiehl’s Creme De Corps is my favourite”. Infused with cocoa butter, squalane and beta-carotene, it’ll keep your skin hydrated and make sure your tan lasts longer without going patchy. You can pick it up for £36 from Boots.
