Argos shoppers have praised the £32 mattress topper for staying ‘cool to the touch’ all night, making it easier to get a good night’s sleep even during the heatwave
The heatwave has been affecting our sleep for weeks now, and with plenty more high temperatures still on the horizon, it’s time to do something about it. All the open windows and tower fans in the world can’t keep you cool when your bedding is actively absorbing your body heat and trapping it around you, which is why upgrading your bedding to something specifically designed to keep you cool is essential.
Although lighter duvets and breathable duvet covers can help reduce temperatures, they don’t make a huge difference when it’s so hot that you can’t bring yourself to sleep under a duvet at all. Which is why countless shoppers have been eagerly snapping up the Silentnight Restore Cooling Mattress Protector instead.

Amazon slashes portable air conditioning unit that rivals Lidl and Aldi’s to just £48
Priced at just £32 for a double size, the mattress topper sits on top of your mattress and under your sheets, and helps reduce your body temperature to keep you cool. You can also pick it up in a single (£26), a king size (£37) and a super king (£42), so you can fit every bed in your household with one.
Rather than absorbing heat, which most traditional mattresses and mattress protectors do, the Silentnight Restore Cooling Mattress Protector is made with an innovative cool sensation fabric, which instantly helps to bring your temperature down. It wicks away moisture to stop sweating, and keeps your bed feeling cool and fresh.
Although it’s great for the current heatwave the UK is experiencing, it’s also handy if you suffer from night sweats caused by things like the menopause, or if you just find yourself tossing and turning a lot while you sleep. The Silentnight Restore Cooling Mattress Protector also creates a more comfortable, supportive base to sleep on, and is fully machine washable so you can keep it fresh and clean.
Dunelm has also launched its own version, with the Fogarty Cool Sleep Mattress Topper priced between £38 and £64 depending on which size you get. It has a soft and breathable cotton cover which increases airflow, keeping your body temperature regulated and ensuring your bedding stays dry and comfortable.
Simba also has the Cool Foam Mattress Topper which is more expensive at £149 to £299. It does, however, offer memory foam-style support and cushioning, with Simbatex foam that offers five times more airflow than traditional memory foam.
However the Silentnight Restore Cooling Mattress Protector is not only more affordable but has a great rating from Argos shoppers. One said: “Feels cool to the touch and stays that way all night.”
Another wrote: “It’s reasonably priced and does what it claims to do it’s even better with a fan blowing on it.”
Some, however, found it didn’t quite live up to its cooling name, saying: “I haven’t noticed any cooling effect so far, although that may be affected by the heatwave. I have still felt very sweaty and hot, so am not sure quite how breathable it is. Basically I am using it just as a mattress protector at this point, and certainly won’t change it for winter as I don’t think it does much cooling.”
But others loved it, saying: “Nice quality, cooler than our last protector. Good fit for the bed,” with another writing: “Fits really well and it definitely makes a difference to overall night heat.”
