The famous Goodyear Blimp is celebrating it’s 101st anniversary this year, and to celebrate it took a flight over London, producing a series of stunning images
The iconic Goodyear Blimp is officially back in UK skies, capturing stunning, exclusive bird’s-eye images from the airship as it sailed over London.
The legendary giant of the skies captured breathtaking aerial views of the capital’s most famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, and The Shard. It even caused quite a stir inside the Daily Mirror London office yesterday, when I was one of the lucky staff who managed to catch a glimpse of it cruising past Canary Wharf.
The airship will be gracing our skies until July 14, and Ben Crawley, General Manager of Goodyear, is delighted to see it back.
“The Goodyear Blimp is a recognisable icon worldwide, and we’re thrilled to see it return to the UK this summer,” Crawley said. “For over 100 years, it has been an iconic presence at cultural and sporting events, and we’ve been eagerly anticipating its first flight in the UK since 2022.”
The blimp first graced British skies back in June 1972, flying over Cardington, Bedfordshire. Since then, it has looked down on some of the nation’s most historic public milestones, including the 1981 royal wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana at St Paul’s Cathedral, the 1980 FA Cup Final and Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in 1985.
