Home Bargains was founded in 1976 in Liverpool before going on to become a high street favourite. Now shoppers praised the store for “always” selling one essential product cheaper than anywhere else
Bargain hunting shoppers have lifted the lid on where they snap up the cheapest products, with many sharing they always head to Home Bargains for one household essential.
With the cost of living crisis raging on, countless people are feeling the pinch and finding it a struggle to stretch their money that bit further each month. Shopping around and visiting multiple supermarkets has become par for the course for many discount lovers, with Home Bargains being praised for its “good prices” across a range of items. The chain store is a firm favourite on the British high street. It’s known for its budget-friendly product line-up which cover a range of shoppers’ needs from home accessories and decor to food, cleaning essentials, baby supplies, beauty products, DIY, garden items and more.
But one item has been praised as consistently being cheaper there than anywhere else.
One person took to Reddit’s popular Frugal subreddit and asked: “What is always cheaper at Home Bargains than elsewhere?”
They then elaborated: “I’m housebound but since they deliver now, thinking to do an order here and there to save. I don’t need pet or car stuff, but other general recs welcome thanks.”
In the comments section, people were keen to share their thoughts, with many declaring Home Bargains’ toilet roll cheaper than all competitors’.
One Reddit user said: “Toilet roll and kitchen roll is always a good price.”
Another agreed: “I use Home Bargains for 3 things: Toilet roll, their 18 packs of Nicky Elite are good quality and reasonably priced (though I haven’t compared prices with other places), shower cleaner, [and] jars of sliced red jalapeno, about a quid a jar which is cheaper than I’ve found anywhere else.”
To which, someone else replied: “Yes the Nicky toilet roll! Although pretty sure I get 32 pack at our local one.” And another said: “44 toilet rolls for £8 of your shiniest pounds.”
Others were keen to praise Home Bargains’ pricing across its toiletries and beauty supplies. One Reddit user said: “I find them good for toiletries. Like I just got a nice leave in conditioner spray that was a quid.”
Another shared: “I specifically go there for my skincare products, washing up tabs & fabric conditioner, deodorant, wash cloths, olive oil and toothpaste.”
Home Bargains was founded in 1976 by Tom Morris in Liverpool, when he was just 21 years old. Initially, the single store was named Home and Bargain before being changed to Home Bargains in 1995.
Throughout Merseyside, it’s still colloquially known by its original name, which can cause confusion among visitors and tourists who aren’t aware of the backstory.
