A bargain hunter has shared a little-known Primark shopping phrase that could help you save money on items – so here’s everything you need to know about the savvy tip
Everyone loves a bargain – particularly when money is tight. That’s precisely why one savvy shopper has revealed a little-known trick that could help customers bag 10% off at Primark.
Although the technique was widely used some 20 or 30 years ago, it seems to have slipped under the radar for many shoppers, especially younger generations more used to purchasing goods online.
The bargain hunter, known online as caroline.shops, explained how she secures a discount at Primark, saying: “If you see an item of clothing that you like but it’s got a small mark on it, it might be because somebody has tried it on in the changing room and smudged lipstick on it. As an example, you can go up to the till, point out the mark and ask, ‘Can I get a reduction?'”.
“Generally speaking, the staff will give you a 10% reduction because of that and, more often than not, these marks will come out in the wash.”
Caroline also claimed there are ways to earn cashback when spending money at Primark. She added: “There are various sites and apps that will do this for you, such as Jam Doughnut. Primark often has items that are reduced by 90%.”
According to the content creator, Friday morning is the optimum time to shop, when stock is frequently marked down ahead of the weekend rush.
She said: “The best time to get these things is probably on a Friday morning because they are going to be restocking for the weekend, which is when they get most of their footfall.
“New popular items sell out really quickly, so a good idea is to go onto the Primark website. You can’t buy things there, but you can check stock levels at your local store.”
While shoppers appreciated Caroline’s money-saving advice, Primark staff cautioned that the optimal time to visit varies by branch.
One wrote: “Yes, you can get 10% off with a mark, but we don’t do reductions on Friday mornings.”
Another said: “The truth is we generally mark items down on Wednesdays – that’s when the bargains are best – and, of course, towards the end of a season when we clear out seasonal stock.”
A third added: “It’s all dependent on the store. Most do reductions on Wednesdays. A 90% discount only happens when an item isn’t selling and needs to be cleared quickly.
“Most reductions are up to 50%, and the majority of the time it’s stock that can no longer be reordered, so sizes are limited.
“The best advice, if you want a particular item, is to use Click and Collect because although the website shows stock availability, it’s not always updated in real time.”
If you’re curious about the best time to snap up discounts at your nearest Primark, there’s no harm in asking staff members.
When shoppers are courteous, employees may well share some money-saving secrets with you directly. So it’s always worth enquiring!
