Months of free reads are up for grabs for Prime members
Amazon’s annual Prime Day is fast approaching, but the shopping giant is treating shoppers to some deals early. Kindle Unlimited, the massive collection of ebooks that are borrowed out like a library system, is free for three months for Prime members who haven’t previously used a free trial.
For those who aren’t Prime members, they can still get 30 days of the reading subscription for free before it goes up to £9.49 a month. The subscription allows readers to take out up to 20 books at a time, with instant downloads available.
There’s a similar promotion available with Audible, which is Amazon’s audiobook service. New members can bag three months for three alongside a £10 bonus credit if they sign up this month.
Kobo also has a reading subscription with Kobo+ that offers a competitive price. It’s £8.99 a month for either the reading or listening option, and for shoppers who want both, they can snap it up for £11.99.
This makes it cheaper than having both Audible and Kindle Unlimited. It is worth flagging that Kindle’s prices are slightly higher than those of rivals Kobo.

Usually £8.99 per month, shoppers can now try it free with a 30-day trial.
There are different books available as part of the Kobo+ library, although there are sure to be some overlapping titles. Notably, a massive range of V. E. Schwab’s books are available, including The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, which is currently the third most-read fantasy novel of the 2026 Goodreads challenge, following The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune.
Libby is also available for loaning out ebooks and audiobooks. It’s completely free but has to be linked to a local library with a library card. This can result in long wait times and some books being completely unavailable.
Here at the Mirror, we have a couple of Kindle Unlimited subscribers on our team who have shared some of their latest loans from the Amazon library. Jada Jones, who is on her 63rd book of the year, is currently reading Anderson in Bloom by Jennifer Dugan, which follows a florist who quit her Hollywood lifestyle and ran away from it all after her agent screwed her over.
Five years later, she discovers that her ex-girlfriend is writing a memoir, including her story, and she’s not thrilled by it. A drunk text leads to the Oscar-winning ex-love of her life showing up at the shop, and halfway through, Jada’s hoping there’s a happy ending for these two.
Jada also recently borrowed Ashley Poston’s The Dead Romantics and said: “I’ve had a couple of Ashley Poston books on my shelves for years and never quite got around to reading them, but with her latest book, The Someday Garden, coming out this month and a tour giving a chance to get copies signed, I suggested we cover one of her books for my book club. I saw The Dead Romantics and decided to give it a try, and I kicked myself for not reading it sooner.
“Florence Day can see ghosts, which is why, after solving a crime with the help of one, she got a reputation in her home town that sent her running for the Big Apple. With her heart broken by an ex who stomped all over her trust, a romance novel deadline looming over her and then an unexpected death in the family forcing her back to the funeral home she grew up in, she’s got a lot on her plate. More so when her brooding new editor shows up on her doorstep, and he is undeniably a ghost.
“This book made me laugh, cry and had me practically begging for a grumpy man to be brought back to life. Poston has landed the magical realism voice down perfectly, and I’ve since bought all of her books, which I plan to power through this month. I’ve been begging my friends to hurry up and start reading.”
Harriet Morphy-Morris, who finds herself reaching for her Kindle Scribe more on the weekend, has been loving the choose your own adventure, or poison to be precise, thriller she picked up on Kindle Unlimited. She said: “My favourite book of the month has been The Dinner Party by Freida McFadden. I’m not one to go for thrillers usually, but this has been enticing.
“One book I keep clicking into is for everyday, Emily English’s So Good Express recipe book. It might not be a first thought for Kindle readers, but with the Scribe’s screen, it’s big enough to use as a tablet while cooking.”
It does appear that the three-month free Audible deal is only available to Amazon Prime subscribers who haven’t previously used Kindle Unlimited.
