DWP benefit recipients are being advised to check when their payments will arrive. The department has issued an update highlighting some changes to the standard schedule.
In a statement shared on social media on May 21, the DWP announced: “Child Benefit payment update. Due to the upcoming May bank holiday, some customers may receive their Child Benefit payment early.” The department also provided a link to the Government website for further guidance on the matter. Child Benefit is distributed in four-weekly instalments and typically arrives on a Monday or Tuesday. Those expecting a payment on Monday, May 25, will instead receive it on Friday, May 22.
It’s a good idea to check your eligibility for Child Benefit if you have children under your care. The rate stands at £27.05 weekly for your eldest child and £17.90 weekly for each subsequent child.
Therefore, families with two children would receive £179.80 every four-week payment cycle. Nevertheless, you might be required to repay a portion of your claim based on your earnings.
If either you or your partner has an individual income of £60,000 annually, you must repay 1 per cent of your claim for every £100 earned above this threshold. You have repay all of your payments once your individual income hits £80,000.
Other payments affected
The DWP routinely brings forward payments when bank holidays occur. The organisation has confirmed that anyone expecting a payment on Monday, May 25, will receive their funds on Friday, May 22.
