There were delays at Manchester Airport with the upper forecourt drop-off zone at Terminal 2 closed off for three hours following a crash earlier this morning
Passengers faced delays at Manchester Airport this morning after a police chase ended in a crash.
The upper forecourt drop-off zone at Terminal 2 was closed off for three hours following the crash.
Greater Manchester Police said the driver of a vehicle being pursued by officers was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision.
In a post online at 2.30am this morning, a GMP spokesperson said: “Following a police pursuit, a road traffic collision occurred close to Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport.
“The driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. Due to the location of the collision, disruption is expected for airport passengers.”
Passengers were warned to expect disruption heading to Terminal 2, which is now Manchester Airport’s main terminal for all departures except Ryanair, reports Manchester Evening News.
In a post on social media earlier this morning, a Manchester Airport spokesperson said: “Please be aware: due to a road traffic collision, the upper forecourt of Terminal 2 is closed until further notice.
“All drivers are being redirected to the lower forecourt. As a result, congestion on the site is expected and journeys are likely to take longer than normal. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
Manchester Airport confirmed the upper forecourt had reopened by 5.30am, after around three hours. “The upper forecourt at Terminal 2 has reopened following the earlier road traffic collision. We thank people for their patience and apologise for any delays.”
Further details about the pursuit and the collision have not so far been released and The Mirror has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment.
