A man, believed to be an aircraft engineer, was seriously injured after falling from the back of a Jet2 plane at Manchester Airport. Paramedics were scrambled to the scene at around 8am
Investigators have been called in after a man plummeted from a plane at a UK airport over the weekend.
Air accident investigators were dispatched to the scene after a man tragically fell from a plane at Manchester Airport on Saturday (April 11).
The individual, thought to be an aircraft engineer, was left with severe injuries including fractures to his arm and leg after plummeting from the rear of the aircraft. Paramedics rushed to the airport around 8am following the incident.
Photos taken at the scene depict ambulances and fire service response vehicles surrounding a Jet2 plane. The airline later confirmed that a ‘full’ investigation had been initiated. It is believed the man was a contractor working for Jet2 at the time.
In a subsequent update, the Air Accident Investigations Branch (AAIB) confirmed that specialist investigators were sent to the scene and investigations commenced, reports the Manchester Evening News.
A statement recently issued by the AAIB read: “On Saturday 11 April the AAIB were informed of an accident involving a person falling from an aircraft at Manchester Airport. The AAIB dispatched a team to Manchester Airport on Saturday to begin an investigation into the accident.”
In images from the scene, the aircraft can be seen with a door open near the tail. Mobile stairs used for passengers are also visible nearby.
Manchester Airport confirmed North West Ambulance Service attended the incident. It’s understood the plane was scheduled to depart to Tenerife.
A spokesperson for Jet2 stated: “We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning (Saturday 11th April) involving an individual from a third-party provider.
“We are unable to confirm further details at present, however, can confirm that a full investigation has been launched. We are doing our best to provide support to everyone who needs it.”
