A ceasefire should stop the killing, not legitimise who gets bombed next.
Yet with Lebanon left out of the agreement, Israeli strikes continue to pound the country. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists his campaign will continue despite a two-week truce on Iranian territory.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has branded the escalation a massacre, and he is right. Civilian lives cannot be written off simply because of loopholes in diplomacy.
This continued bombing risks shattering an already fragile pause and dragging the region back towards full-blown war. On his visit to Saudi Arabia, Keir Starmer called on Netanyahu to halt the attacks.
Now he and other world leaders must do more, as words will quickly ring hollow while missiles continue to fall. A ceasefire that risks reigniting war is no ceasefire at all.
