Santander is closing 40 of its UK branches within weeks – here is a full list of every location and when it will close
Santander will close dozens of its high street branches in the UK by the end of May. At the start of the year the Spanish banking giant said it was closing down 44 of its locations nationally, with four shutting down in January.
At the time it confirmed a further 40 branches would be gone by the end of May, saying the change was as a result of customers using more services online. The firm said that 96% of customer transactions were now carried out via digital platforms.
Santander also said that 291 jobs were at risk due to the latest closures. These are the latest closures and come less than a year after the bank announced in March 2025 that it was closing 95 branches affecting 750 employees.
In July last year Santander’s then UK chief executive Mike Regnier, said that around 2,000 jobs had been lost in the preceding year under the bank’s restructuring. He had said then that further redundancies “might well be” likely.
Santander has pledged that any affected branches will be succeeded by “community bankers” through Santander Local stores or shared banking hubs. The bank says this will continue to give access to services for customers in the areas affected by the closures.
The latest closures will start by the end of April 2026 with more to follow in May. The full list of branches which are affected in the latest cuts are listed below with the dates they will close.
