I went along to the launch of Trinny’s new line diffusing product

Trinny London’s miracle blur diffuser in action

If you’re a fan of Trinny London, it’s almost certain that you’ve already heard of Miracle Blur. It’s their cult classic product – the one customers can’t get enough of, and waitlists for it have shot up over 10,000 more than once. So I was more than a little excited for their next product in the range: the Miracle Blur Diffuser, £28.

Unlike the original which comes in a little pot, this comes in a sleek little tube with a paddle applicator. It’s completely clear (the original goes on slightly pink until you dab it in) and the texture is lighter, more viscous and has a beautifully soft, silky-feeling finish. The OG Miracle Blur is a little like the Pollyfilla of the beauty world – ideal for covering over deeper lines and adding a matte finish to the skin.

The new version is, as the name suggests, more of a diffuser. Dab a little over fine lines and crepiness, and it promises to soften and gently dissipate them. In Trinny’s own words, “Our original formula fills deep lines and gives a matte finish. Our new game-changer blurs fine lines and pores, for customers who prefer an all-over soft focus, diffused look.”

The exact LED face masks celebrities swear by – from Molly-Mae to Victoria Beckham

The real question – does it make a difference?

Yes, my friends, it really does.

Where the original is filler, this is filter. It gives that soft focus effect – like someone’s turned the harsh lighting down a notch. It’s my skin, but on a really good day when I drank all the water and didn’t forget my SPF.

The effect is immediate. You notice it while you’re applying; everyone else just thinks you look fresher.

That’s what makes it feel more versatile than the original, too. For those in their 30s or early 40s, who are just starting to learn what fine lines actually are (not something that only appears when you pull a face), it’s a lovely boost for no make-up or light make-up days.

I applied it over after cleansing (Gatineau Melting Cleansing Balm) and moisturising (Murad Cellular Hydration Barrier Repair Cream) and loved the diffusing effect on the crows’ feet coming out from the corners of my eyes.

Versatile blurring

For more mature skin, especially around the under-eye area where crepiness starts to creep in, it smoothes everything out, softly and subtly, and without looking obvious.

And unlike the original, which is more of a primer, the Diffuser can be applied over make-up – which is where it impressed me most. Pressed lightly over my foundation where it had started to settle into lines, it instantly softened and smoothed, taking the edge off my tired skin in seconds.

It’s the kind of product that makes people think your skin just had a very good week, and that’s what I like. When my husband came home he said, “You’re looking very fresh of face today, have you done something different?”

I just smiled sweetly and didn’t tell him. That’s exactly the point.
