Police have launched a murder probe after an elderly woman was found dead at a care home in the middle of the night.
Officers attended the Sleaford Manor Care Home in Lincolnshire at around 2am on Sunday, March 22, following reports an 88-year-old resident was found dead. Police say they are treating the woman’s death as suspicious and have arrested two pensioners.
Both people, a 74-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman, have since been released from custody. In an update issued on Monday evening, police said a murder investigation had been launched after a post-mortem was carried out on the 88-year-old woman, reports Lincolnshire Live.
Detective Inspector Mel Rooke, of the police’s major crime unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim this evening. Our specially trained officers will be providing support to her family as our inquiry continues.
“I understand any unexpected death is a concern to our communities and this tragic death will be no different. I can say there is no wider risk to the public. Our inquiries will take some time to complete and I would ask that the family and the care home are left in peace and their privacy is respected.”
On Monday, a spokesperson for Care UK, which runs the care home, said: “We are deeply saddened by this incident and send our condolences to the resident’s family. The incident is now part of an active police investigation so it would be wrong for us to comment any further at this time.
“We will be cooperating with the investigation in any way we can.”
