The driver of the Mazda, a 73-year-old woman, and a six-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash in Lincolnshire with two people arrested

A six-year-old child and a woman are fighting for their lives after a horror crash.

Police have made an appeal to the public for information after a black BMW, travelling southbound, is understood to have crashed into a silver Mazda on the A161 in Woodhouse, between Belton Village and junction two of the M180, in Lincolnshire at around 10.50am on Saturday morning.

The driver of the Mazda, a 73-year-old woman, and a six-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 40-year-old man failed to stop at the scene, said police.

He was later located and arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, and driving whilst under the influence of drink and drugs.

A 33-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. Both the man and woman arrested have been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Police would like to hear from any witnesses or people who may have dashcam and CCTV footage to help them in their investigation.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: “The driver of the BMW, a 40-year-old man, reportedly failed to stop at the scene and was subsequently located and arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, and driving whilst under the influence of drink and drugs.

“Following initial enquiries, a 33-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. Both have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

“If anyone witnessed the collision, has any dashcam or CCTV footage that may assist officers with ongoing enquiries, please contact our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 167 of 21 February 2026. Alternatively, you can report anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
