Norfolk Police were called to the site at 11am on Tuesday, but the man tragically was pronounced dead at the scene

A man has been killed in an industrial accident while at work on a new-build housing estate.

The incident occurred just after 11am on Tuesday, Norfolk Police said, with officers responding to a call at the site.

Emergency services declared the man, who has not yet been named, dead at the scene.

The man was described as an “agency general operative” by developers, Tilia Homes, in a statement announcing he had been killed.

The site will remain closed while a full investigation takes place, the developer confirmed.

The tragic incident took place at the Furlong Heath housing development on Salhouse Road in Sprowston, near Norwich.

Police said that the man’s next of kin have been informed, adding that their enquiries are being assisted by the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “A man was sadly declared dead at the scene.

“Officers are investigating alongside colleagues from the HSE.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed.”

Police said that the man’s next of kin have been informed, adding that their enquiries are being assisted by the Health and Safety Executive.

Work was underway at the site on a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes located on the edge of Norwich city centre, according to the developers.

A spokesperson from the company said: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the individual’s family, friends and colleagues at this incredibly difficult time.

“We would like to thank the emergency services for their swift response and professionalism in attending the scene.”

“Our immediate focus is on the well-being of everyone affected by this incident.

“The safety and welfare of those who work with us is our highest priority, and we will be providing support to our employees, subcontractors and partners at the development.

“This includes access to appropriate welfare and counselling services to ensure that those impacted receive the care and assistance they need.”
